I've been reading this thread and it absolutely blows me away! Whoa! Like you, I totally and truthfully believe that it should be up to the mom-to-be to choose. Absolutely. However....... I guess I grew up in the "natural childbirth" time, when it was a no-no to do just about anything, which I felt was extreme but, hey, I understood the reasons why. Both my sons (born 1983 and 1993) were born without the aid of meds (though the second it would've been nice!) and it ws my choice. Meds will be offered if needed; help me out here, but I'm not sure what; but I know of no one who has had epidural in this area. Mid-wives/doulas are just new to this area and were not available to me even 5 years ago. However, pre-natal classes are offered to 100% of pregnant women here (of course, it is there choice whether or not to go!) and Lamaze classes are also available. Could the high rate of pre-natal class attendance have something to do with it? Next doc visit, I am going to inquire, that is for sure! I am glad that women have a choice, I really am, but no one is going near my spine with a needle :-) . It really does amaze me that so many choose it, to be honest. I just find this subject very, very curious! Great topic (long as we remain calm LOL)! Be well, Jean
