diet to prevent breast cancer? pseudoscience or not?

First of all, I don't want this to be some sort of holy war. I'm not even sure this is something the OB/GYN doc can answer. I saw Oprah last week where a doc was promoting his book, "The Breast Cancer Prevention Diet." It sounded plausable on Oprah (but a good presenter can make anything sound plausable.). I went out that day and bought the book. I have a high family risk of breast cancer and would love to feel like I was doing something about it.

The book recommends lowering body fat, exercise, increase fiber (35-60 grams per day), take omega 3 fats (10 grams a day), eating soy (35 - 60 grams per day) or flaxseed (25 grams per day). The thought is that by blocking the estrogen receptors in the breast, and lowering the estrogen load in the blood, you can lower your risk of breast cancer (the book says stuff like more than 50%). Is this pseudoscience? Are there studies available that could back this up? Will changing to this diet hurt me in some way?

I'm not trying to promote this book. I really would like to know if this diet could be harmful to a 24 yr old woman. I'm already eating low fat, exercising, and taking vitamins. It just scares me to make this much of a change in my life without knowing if this is really accurate.

Please don't let this spark some debate about supplements being a cure all. I know that herbs are like a religion to some people.

Thank You,
