Hi! Am a 43 year old mother of 2 teenagers. Went to doctor with following symptoms: Thinning hair (very distressing), shortened cycle 19 to 27 days, mood swings, crying jags, no hot flashes, some disturbed sleep patterns, racing heart, fatique, really depressed feelings. At my request he sent me for a thyroid test (I had thyroiditis 17 years ago after birth of daughter) It as well as standard blood work came back okay TSH 1.88. I asked him to put me on birth control to perhaps even out moods and help hair. He did-minestril 1/20. Hasn`t really helped, back to crying jags. My new doctor took me off BC pills, is sending me for TSH ,LH and FSH tests. He also gave me Ativan to help me through the hump. I wait 10 days for BC pill to clear my system before bloodwork. I really want anwers., especailly hair thinning. I did lose my father in 1995 and had a scare last November with my mother and colon cancer and chemo etc. It was very emotional. Also my 13 year old son may face heart surgery for a stenosis of the arotic valve next summer. I am normally a stable , kind of in control person. Could stress or depression be the factor in my hair loss and if I avoid stress etc, will my thick hair grow back. Also even of the hormone and thyroid tests come back normal is it still possible to have an improperly acting thyroid (subclinical thyroid disease?) and how is it treated? Iam sourry about the length of the letter but I am desperate for answers. Also I have read so many letters with women complaining of hair loss. I am surprised that doctors dont have more answers. Thanks!!!!!
