Hi-

I am wondering if any of the doctors, or other women, know of conscious pain mapping for pelvic pain? My gyn has suggested referring me to a doc who performs this to determine the cause of chronic pelvic pain I've had for 3 years....but, she won't tell me too many details except that the procedure isn't that bad, but she's slightly concerned that my pain might be too diffuse for the procedure to be successful. I would like some more detailed input about it from others who have performed it, researched it, or had it. I understand it's basically where one has a laparoscopy while awake and I've tried to research it on here and on the Web, but found little on it. Some of my questions include:

How painful is the procedure? Do they sedate you at all....or are you completely awake the entire time? How accurate is this procedure? Is it only effective when pain is localized to one specific area? If they find something, do they have to put you to sleep then to fix it or biopsy it? Also, how is it that they can perform pain mapping while someone is awake...yet, when I've had previous laparoscopies, I've been told general anesthesia (vs. spinal)is necessary due to the gas used during a laparoscopy? If anyone at all has any further information on pain mapping, I would really appreciate it.
