BCP: benefits vs risk for premenopausal women

Question: Do the benefits of the BCP outweigh the risks for women in my age group? I am 44 yrs old and through with children bearing. Have been taking loestrin (BCP) for 3 years with no adverse problems. My gynecologist has been strongly advising me to have a tubal rather than continue with BCP. He feels the risk of the tubal is a one time risk vs. a daily risk of blood clot/stroke every day I take the pill. I am healthy,do not smoke and am normal weight. Literature states the estrogen perhaps will help through pre-menopausal years and help prevent heart disease and osteoporosis.
