Every woman needs to have a complete and thorough gyne exam for basis of comparison of "normal" and "abnormal" for her. Did she happen to mention to the doctor that this was her first gyne exam? I'm sorry to hear that this was a bad experience for her but I do hope that both of you understand that an annual gyn exam is extremely important to your health and well-being and however unpleasant you find the experience to be - it absolutely MUST be done. Ask around - older sisters, mothers, aunts, olders sisters of your friends other trusted females and find out what doctor(s) they use. Find one you feel comfortable with, one that you can talk honestly and openly with and whether the doctor is male or female is totally and completely personal preference (I'm taking a big risk even mentioning that!)
