I had awful headaches that got worse with each shot, but I didn't think about the depression/moodiness being related at the time. I'm a normally upbeat and positive person, but I had trouble just getting out of bed in the morning on Depo. I remember even thinking about suicide. Before that, I had always found it unfathomable that someone would just "give up" like that. It was very frightening! I remember it taking about 2 weeks to a month from the first missed shot date for the headaches to subside. I started feeling better "emotionally" too right about the same time (then it finally hit me why I had been so depressed). I wasn't sure how much of the depression was caused by the constant pain of headaches, but I will NEVER take that stuff again and make sure to tell anyone who asks about my experiences. I think it's a great idea, but 3 months is a long time when you're feeling that bad. I don't know whether it's possible to get a less long term dose or if using the minipill would have a similar effect that you could discontinue at the first sign of problems. I'd be curious to know.
