Chantal Manufacturers of BCP recomend a wait of 3/12 as they are terrified of major lawsuits for fetal abnormalities associated with the BCP. Doctors prefer it as it is easier to date the pregnancy but this is not a porblem with modern ultrasound. In reality, there is now overwelming evidence that there is NO ASSOCIATION with recent BCP usage and fetal abnormalities. Your doctor was correct in giving you this advice but this is a rule that you can break if you are fully informed as to the reasons why it is made.
