Placenta PreviaFrom: Tricia (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 30 Sep 1998 12:53:45 -0500 (CDT)
My sister-in-law is 25 weeks pregnant. At 23 weeks she experienced bleeding and passed a few clots. She called her Dr., who at first told her to lay down and rest until her next visit (about a week away.) A few hours later he called her back and had reviewed the ultrasound she had at 20 weeks and said it showed placenta previa and she needed to be on bed rest for a week. Well, the first day she was out of bed, she began spotting again (3-4 pads a day0 and has passed part of her mucus plug. She's back on bed rest for the duration. My question...how much longer can the pregnancy continue, especially with the passing of the mucus plug? And, what are the odds of survival for the baby? What risks are there to mom at this point, and is there anything else she should do. Any help, advice or suggestions would be appreciated. Sorry for the length, but I'm a very concerned and worried aunt-to-be.
