Insulin resistanceFrom: paula (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 29 Sep 1998 19:19:09 -0500 (CDT)
Thanks to everyone on the forum! This is a great service. I have a few questions (of course!). I am taking Clomid to induce ovulation. Though this is my first cycle on 100mg (which does not appear to be working as it is day 19 with no ovulation though a lot of tenderness), I have not been successful in getting the diagnostics done that I would like. I have a significant family history of diabetes (adult onset), though my fasting insulin levels are ok. I tend to be overweight, though I have lost 60 lbs. and maintained 50 lbs off for over a year. I had a very irregular menstrual cycle as a teenager, and since going off the pill 10/97 I have only ovulated once (on 50 mg Clomid). I am really interested in the possibility of insulin resistance relating to my fertility issues. If my cycle could be fixed with glucophage instead of more and more expensive fertility treatments (not covered by insurance) I would be thrilled! My question is: when talking about the possibility of insulin resistance that might benefit from glucophage what are some symptoms? Also, what test should I be asking my doctors for? I need to go to my OB/GYN for a few more months before a referral can be made to the RE in my area, but I really want this to be checked. Can you give me any references for additional info? Thanks for the information. Though I am just starting to deal (4 cycles of trying) with infertilty it is very difficult. Sincerely, Paula
