HECK NO!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going into spontaneous labor at 39 weeks (once I'm no longer on the call schedule and after I finish office hours for the week!). The contractions aren't going to be bad, so I'll be puttering around at home, organizing the kitchen cabinets or something -- or even better, going cross country skiing after our first major snow of the season. I'll eventually notice some pressure, so I'll check myself -- I'll be 8 cm. As I don't want to rupture membranes on MY floor, my husband and I will head to the hospital. Upon arrival I'll rupture on THEIR floor (clear fluid of course). I'll be 9 cm, +1 station so they will call one of my partners. Unfortunately, I will have an overwhelming urge to push before she arrives, and with one expulsive effort I will deliver my daughter myself over an intact perineum. My husband will not faint (well, this part I'm not so sure about!) but will capture the entire event on tasteful black and white film. No, I am not currently on any hallucinogenic agents, nor am I under psychiatric care! If I believe it can happen this way, it can!
