6 year old daughter has pubic hairFrom: Dad (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sat, 29 Aug 1998 22:37:03 -0500 (CDT)
My 6 1/2 year old daughter has just started to develop pubic hair. No other noticable puberty type development. Is this cause for medical concern? I did not want to stigmatize her by dragging her to the pediatrician solely to look at her pubic hair (her next checkup is not for a while). I wanted to check whether this could be a sign of a medical problem. Looking on the http://www, I have found some posts by parents who have otherwise normal kids who developed very early, but also some case studies (boys) where early development was a sign of a serious problem. I would also welcome suggestions on how to help her deal with the social issues that may arrise as she notices the difference between herself and her girl friends, and they notice too. I have left out my first name to protect my daughter's privacy, but I can contact you privately if you want to make sure this is a legit question.
