Fibroids

Hello, I have just recently been informed that I have fibroid tumors in my uterus. I am a RN and have tried to read as much about the subject as possible, however, I haven't found the answer to a question that I have. I am wondering how fibroids cause metorrhagia? I have been having the problem for quite some time and have even had to start iron supplements due to the iron-deficiency enemia it has caused (my hemoglobin has dropped as low as 9 in the recent past). My physician has suggested a hysteroscopy to try to laser off some layers of the fibroids. Is there any other treatment available short of a hysterectomy, which is NOT an option for me at this time or any time unless there is carcinoma (which there is not). I look forward to your reply.
