Gallstone surgery during pregnancy

I am 17 wks pregnant with my 2nd and have just found out from a renal ultrasound that I have a large amount of gallstones. After seeing a gastrointerologist he said it is up to my ob/gyn if I should have surgery. I am vomiting 5 to 6 times daily and have been since 2 months. Is surgery at this point in pregancy safe? Should it be considered while pregnant or should surgery wait until after the baby is born? I haven't had any symptoms other than mild fever, nausea/vomiting. I am worried that further into my pregnancy I may have an attack and send me into labor early. Is this possible? Thank you in advance for your help.
