Birth control for a 42 year old womanFrom: Susan (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 28 Aug 1998 14:23:48 -0500 (CDT)
I am in need of acquiring an appropriate form of bith conrol after not having to use any for many years. My ex husband had a vasectomy. For the past three years since my divorce I have used condoms. I am now in a relaionship again and want to find the least invasive most appropriate form. In my research I come up against so many conflicting opinions. Is the new pills a safe option for a woman my age. I have been a smoker for the last four years and have just quit. I have never given birth but have been pregnant 3 times. One misscarriage and two abortions. In my early years of being sexually active I tried the pill. The estrogen levels were too high and I gained too much weight. For years following I used a diaphram. I was often prone to UTI's when I was more sexually active. It has been so many years now that I feel out of the loop in terms of information. Considering the information I have given you, do you have any suggestions? I should also tell you I am physically fit, Healthy with a BP of 110/70. With the exception of the last several years of cigarette smoking, I take very good care of my body. Thank you for your service. I await your responce. Respectfully, Susan Elias H
