Antibodies and Infertility - 2nd requestFrom: JANE (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 27 Aug 1998 17:35:00 -0500 (CDT)
I have some concerns in regards to Anticardiolipin / Antiphosphiolipid antibodies that I am hoping a dr could help me with. To give you a little background, I have had 2 losses. The first at 8wks and the second at 23wks (due to preterm labor). I am currently trying to get pregnant. I have been trying for 5 mths. I had the Endocrine Panel of tests run, it revealed a high DHEAS level, so I’m currently taking 0.5 mg of Dexamethasone, to bring my levels down (I have been on this for 2 mths). I was told to continue to take this until I am pregnant. I’ve read about the antibodies and have some concern with them. I’ve asked my dr to run the Antiphosphiolipid/Anticardiolipin tests on me. He said he will do that once a pregnancy is achieved. From what he has seen it is a hormonal change that brings this on. Many of his patients have had this and he feels comfortable in treating it.
>From what I’ve been reading, this test should be preformed prior to My questions are: 1 ~ Could these antibodies cause one to not be able to get pregnant? 2 ~ What would the harm be, if I were to begin to take baby aspirin without knowing if I am positive for these antibodies? What time of the month should this begin and when should it stop, if a pregnancy was not achieved that month, or is it something that I would just continue to take until a pregnancy was achieved? Thanking you in advance for your answer to my questions.
