Josh,

As a flight-attendant I can tell you the rules and recommendations of my company:

When we become pregnant, we have two options: either we continue to fly until the 27th week of the pregnancy, or we stop flying and go to work on the 'ground'. When we decide to continue flying, the rules are as follows:

The European norm for admissible cosmic radiation and the average amount of radiation of 5mSv per flying-hour allows a total of about 200 flyinghours during pregnancy. So we may continue to fly for a total of 200 hours during the first 26 weeks of pregancy.

Furthermore our company's Medical Department states that there is hardly any influence of a pressurized and climatizad cabin on pregnancy.

Personally I have decided to go work in the office during my pregnancy, because our job is physically very demanding with al the lifting, pulling and pushing of heavy trolleys and crossing time-zones all the time! I'm not really afraid that the flying in itself would do any harm. Our Union is constantly keeping track of all the investigations that are being made in this respect, and up untill now, they are reassuring.

Good luck, Anneminke
