Anaprox and periods

I have a question for the medical experts out there:

How does Anaprox work to lessen the amount and duration of menstrual flow? I have really bad cramps and long and heavy periods on the pill, so my doctor has me on Anaprox. I understand how it works to lessen cramps and inhibit prostaglandins. (I'm on the pill because I only have 2 or three periods a year and have tried several brands.) I was under the impression that the hormones in the pill build up the uterine lining and then stopping them causes the withdrawal bleeding. If this is the case, what happens to the lining when on Anaprox? How is there less of it? I only start taking it one day before my period begins. The Anaprox has worked great for me, but I was just curious about this and couldn't find any info other than it does happen, but not why.

Thank you!
