abdominal hysterectomy and Burch procedure

I am 29 years old. I have been suffering with severe anemia from extremely heavy periods (all other possible causes of the anemia, including any GI etiology, have been ruled out). I have been tried on various hormone therapies for this bleeding, but due to side effects (severe migraines and my blood pressure goes very high and weight gain) I have been taken off every one. I also have a prolapsed bladder that has been causing me stress incontinence with sneezing, coughing, etc since the birth of my first son 6 years ago. (I have 2 boys, ages 6 and 2). I had a tubal ligation after my second son was born. Due to my very low blood counts, I have been started on iron injections weekly as I was not responding well enough to oral iron and I really wanted to avoid another transfusion. My gynecologist has recommended that I have an abdominal hysterectomy as well as the Burch procedure to correct the bladder problem. I am all for it! The thought of finally not bleeding heavily for at least half of every month for another 20 years sounds great, as well as not wearing a pad for urine leakage all of the time. However, many people I know have expressed concern that I am too young for this and that I should not even consider this extreme approach. My gynecologist feels it is my best option at this point. I just wondered what any other opinions were on this subject. Thanks.
