Vaginal Atrophy and PremarinFrom: Mary (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Jul 1998 20:19:03 -0500
Today my GYN made a preliminary dx of vaginal atrophy, possible vulvar vestibulitis, after I described the pain with intercourse and he did the swab test (which nearly caused me to jump off the table) and an internal exam. I am breastfeeding my 4 1/2 mos old daughter on-demand (every 2-3 hours around the clock). Naturally, now that the office is closed, questions spring to mind. Thank goodness the WHForum is open 24 hours a day! ;) He prescribed Premarin Cream (.625mg) to be used once a day (for two weeks) - 2 grams total, .5 gram applied externally and the remainder internally. I hope I am assuming correctly that this is best applied before bedtime. The doctor mentioned that I may have a "period" after discontinuing the cream. Does this mean a bleed or a real period complete with ovulation beforehand? Also, should intercourse be avoided during the two weeks I am using this cream? Thanks in advance for any information. Mary
