endometriosis/lupronFrom: Barb (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Jul 1998 15:34:49 -0500 (CDT)
2 months ago, I had a laparoscopy, my Dr. took out my right ovary, an endometrioma, several growths, and scar tissue. He told me I had a mess in there. He said it was severe endometriosis. Lab tests confirm this. Because I had a bad experiences with birth control pills and still have continuous pain and cramps, and cannot use birth control pills, he suggested Lupron, (once a month, 3.5 dose for 6 months) or a hysterectomy if all else fails. I am past the baby stage, and am entertaining the notion. I did look on the internet, and several books on the subject of Lupron, and have read rather alarming reactions to the drug. It has been rather frightening. Today, I would gladly do anything for the pain, and the time it is taking away from my kids. This is the summer, for crying out loud!! My question remains; What has been your patients' experience with Lupron? I realize I read worst case scenarios, and don't want to be swayed by them. What is the success rate for pain, and reduction of endometriosis? Please be realistic. The literature I have read states that it is not a cure...if this is the case, then why bother? After 6 months, then what??? Thank you for your time
