Incompetent Cervix & future pregnanciesFrom: Colleen (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 29 Jul 1998 13:59:23 -0500 (CDT)
Hi, We are starting to think about baby #2 and we have some questions that you may be able to help us with. Our daughter was born at 26 weeks without any real reason. The doctors could detect nothing abnormal to cause the preterm labor. They did say that it could be an incompetent cervix but there was no real way to tell until our next child. Is this true? We would also like to know is there are any statistics you can direct us to on the frequency of preterm labor for second births. (that is after a preterm labor) Are there any warning signs we should be aware of to indicate an incompetent cervix? I read on a post to this group that there are no labor pains involved when an incompetent cervix is the cause to preterm labor? Is this true? [because I sure had the labor pains with #1!!] I want to educate myself so I can be informed when picking and seeing a doctor. The more I can learn about an incompetent cervix the more at ease I will feel about #2. If there are any books or internet sites you can direct us towards we would be grateful! Thanks for all of you help!!
