alkaline or acidic treatment for UTIs?

I've been collecting information about treating chronic UTIs. Some sources say to drink alkaline water (with baking soda, barley, etc.), while others say to drink acidic juices or other acidic fluids to alleviate the infection and symptoms. Which is the correct approach for treating a bacterial infection?
