Appropriate weight gainFrom: Jill (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 24 Jul 1998 09:43:18 -0500 (CDT)
I know that the usual safe weight gain for the aerage woman is 25-35 pounds. But here is the twist. I am 26 years old, grav 4 para 3, 5'9, 190lbs, 5 1/2 weeks preg. With my last pregnancy as soon as I hit 200lb( 26 weeks) I developed tachycardia with palpatations and SOB without exercise or caffeine. I'd tach up to 135 for up to 1/2 an hour. OB referred me back to GP who did ECG and sent me to a cardiologist. Cardiologist did a 2-D Echo and saw no structural problems. He started me on Inderal and I had a HORRIBLE paradoxical reaction. WE switched to 25mg Lopressor prn and that worked fine. I took it about once a day until the end of my pregnancy-baby was born perfect-een after feared IUGR-they said he'd be 6 1/2 lbs TOPS-he was 7-14. Anyway, what I'd like some advice on is what should I gain weight-wise. I am already 40 lbs oerweight, when I hit 200 I fear my heart will go "wiggy" again, but don't I need to gain more than 10 lbs-or is that a fallacy? I'e gained 35,45 and 25 pounds respectiely with my last 3 babies. Thank you
-- Jill
