Teresa- Although this is almost certainly a harmless (but bothersome) problem, it is possible that it represents something more serious. Thus, she should see a doctor or other health care provider in the UK experienced in women's health issues. The most likely cause of this is an endometrial (uterine) lining that has become too thin from the progesterone found in the Depo-Provera. This leads to a denuded lining, which becomes irritated and constantly bleeds. Treatement is simply giving estrogen for about 10 days, which "beefs up" the lining. This almost always stops the bleeding. I'll bet the lady is thin, as thin ladies have less estrogen than heavy ladies (fat cells produce certain types of estrogen). I see this problem more in thinner patients. Other causes may include pregnancy, cervical inflammation, being menopausal, and even cervical cancer. Therefore, she should get this checked out with a health care provider in the UK. Thanks,
