Re: Pregnancy after 40

Dear Tamar: I had my second child at age 43. He was born after an easy one hour labor in our outdoor hot tub. (The (accidentally) professionally-filmed video of this even is available from me: Channel for a New Life). I felt perfectly fine throughout the pregnancy and had no prenatal testing at all, not even urine or BP! Listening to the fetal heart rate was done with an ear to my belly! I never had an ultrasound in either of my pregnancies, either. Had I been anxious, I would have gone for all the tests, I suppose. My husband is an OB and I could have had them all for free!

However, I would never advocate that others follow my example, or any one else's. A woman has to give birth where and with whom she feels safe. For me that was where intervention is not even a possibility....and I accepted the "what ifs"....

He was a consciously-conceived child: I knew he was a boy and I knew he was healthy and normal. It is prenatal bonding allows women to develop the courage and power to trust their bodies and to know that birth is something that women DO, not that is done to them.

To be human is to be in danger, always. But birth is as safe as life can ever be, and I would put my odds on birth before most other things. It is a shame, that, albeit with the best of intentions, birth has become so intensely medicalized. And this doesn't always mean answers, as in your case of bleeding. I would seek a good hynotherapist who can help you into a regressed state to discover the cause/meaning of that bleeding . You could look at http://www. birthpsychology.com or eMail Mickel Adzema at spirit@wco.com for a list of primal therapists and the like. Good luck! Elizabeth Noble
