Suspected Polycystic OvariesFrom: Natalie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 30 Jun 1998 12:18:52 -0500 (CDT)
My OB/GYN recently diagnosed me as having Polycystic Ovaries. I am however not convinced that this is indeed my problem. While my hormone levels are high(LS, FSH), there is no evidence of cysts indicated on my ultra sound. I have excessive, continual, heavy and painful periods, but I have a recognisable cycle! I am also aware that I bleed (or spot) when I ovulate? How is this possible if I have polycystic ovaries? I also present no symptoms associated with polycystic ovaries such as excessive hair growth, obesity or acne. I am a virgin so sexually transmitted problems are not a concern, but I am beginning to become very depressed. I am 23 and have been experiencing problems since I began menstrating 11 years ago. Are there any other possible causes for such problems and for raised hormone levels? Could my doctor's diagnoses be incorrect? I don't want to mask any major problems that may exist. What questions or further information do I need to find out?
