Re: Breech and External Version QsFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netTue, 30 Jun 1998 09:49:48 EDT
Elizabeth (CCE) and Suzanne (ICCE)...thanks so much for your thoughts and comments on my forthcoming decision/situation. I, too, am hoping that one of the OBs will add their comments. I have tried some of the techniques, such as 3 weeks of music via earphones near the pubic bone, and also elevating hips. Unfortunately, because of my bedrest restrictions, the walking, bathing, and swimming are off limits. I will say that the baby surely notices when I have vertical activity and I think she may have gotten the idea to turn on her own if I hadn't been on bedrest since 21 weeks! There is a certain point where I am a bit afraid to try too hard to turn the baby because I am concerned about causing a cord accident. Perhaps that would be rare, but I've had other rare things happen! Since 32 weeks I've been having twice weekly NSTs and AFIs (due to APAS). My NSTs are fine, but my AFIs are satisfactory, but not optimal for the version in the 9-10 range. The AFIs have also revealed that all this baby likes to do is roll right to left and left to right. I'm told that with APFs below 10, versions are less likely to work. I'm hoping that Thursday's version is successful and that we'll be able to get to the finish line without a c-section. On the other hand, the c-section is winning over the vaginal breech delivery. It's also interesting to note that some of the medical team, who know me on a more personal basis, have quietly and off the record indicated that their preference would not be a vaginal breech delivery. And to interject some humor, one of the perinatologists has had fun teasing me that this is the week with the infamous July 1st and all that that means in a teaching hospital. Elizabeth, please send me the bedrest URL, as that would be fun to see. One of my critiques that I will pass on to the medical team is that they have provided no written or video materials that would have been helpful in making this decision. I don't know if such materials exist, but I would have found them helpful. If anyone has breech or version URLs, that would be a big help.
