UAE only blocks the uterine arteries which provide 50-75% of the total blood supply to the uterus. Because there are abundant other sources of blood the uterus survives this very well and just expands the other sources of blood, Fibroids on the other have very marginal blood supply and are irreperably damaged by UAE. This is why the uterus resumes normal function and pregnancy is possible. There is a theoretical risk of the uterus necrosing but that has only been observed in Europe when much smaller particle size is used than we use in this country.
