Dear Doctors and Listmates

I hope you won't mind this is not an "ob/gyn" post, but I am trying to find some medical answers concerning Bipolar (manic depression), and I am hoping someone here can help me or at least point me in the right direction.

My husband was diagnosed with bipolar a year ago (which he said might explain his sometimes "strange" behavior over the years, he is 41), and is taking 900 mg of lithium and 150 mg of Wellbutrin daily. Until recently he seemed to be doing good on this combination with only a few days of depression here and there, but about four weeks ago he started getting very depressed again so our doctor increased his Wellbutrin to 300 mg per day. The problem is, he doesn't seem to be coming out of it like usual and still seems very depressed.

I don't know if this makes a difference or not, but it was about this same time last year when he got so bad (very irritable, said he couldn't handle being around anyone and stayed in our camper out in the woods for two weeks, missed days at work, went on a big gambling spear, etc.), that I finally convinced him to go see a doctor again.

We have been married for six years and when he is feeling "normal" so to speck, that kind of behavior is VERY unlike him. He is usually a hard worker, very patient, loving, and completely involved with his family. For example, before he went into this recent depression he was helping couch our sons baseball team (which he has done for the past five years), but by the end of the season he didn't seem interested in helping anymore. Last week our son was one of the kids picked (out of 50 kids) to go to all stars again this year, but my husband doesn't seem to interested and he hasn't even gone to watch him practice, which normally would be very usual for him.

Also, I don't know if this condition can affect your children or not, but we have a two year old daughter together (actually "our" son is mine from a previous marriage, but you would never know it), who is EXTREMELY hyper, defiant, repeats everything etc., and is very hard to handle which means I lose my practice with her more then I want to admit.

Anyway, I am wonding if anyone has some advice or suggestions about my husbands recent depression, he just had his level checked and it was okay, and also about our daughters extreme hyper behavior.

Thank you for your time, any help would be appreciated.
