A Tribute to Our Medical Professionals from All of Us.From: Barbara (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 23 Jun 1998 17:18:37 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Medical Professionals, I want to include here a few wonderful letters written to the physicians, nurses, and other medical professionals who give unselfishly of their time in answering the many posts received on OBGYN.net Women's Health Forum. They represent the feelings of most all of us that participate in the forum. I as the Editor have never been able to find the words to thank them as well as these women have. They have taken the time to rise up and be heard and to express their thanks to all of you. I am inclosing a few of these wonderful posts and hope you hold your heads a bit higher today for your wonderful part in helping "us". 1, Andrea writes: "I am not one of the professionals on this forum, but I do enjoy and appreciate the service this forum provides. I would like to offer my opinion about your concern. Since the health professionals on this forum are volunteering their services, they have complete discretion regarding which questions they choose to answer. I don't think there is a "dispatcher" assigning questions to particular people. They are not obligated to answer any particular question and I am sure there are some questions that never get a response. Each member of the panel has their own reasons for choosing to respond or not respond to particular question. It may be that the panel member who would have chosen to answer your question simply has not done so yet. However, complaining about the service will not inspire anyone to respond to your question and may even discourage some professionals from participating at all. In my opinion, no one is "entitled" to a response at all, let alone a response that is provided "in turn". If you have a problem that you believe "deserves" a response, you should consult your own doctor or nurse. I am amazed that so many doctors and nurses donate their time to answer the questions on this forum. Please appreciate the service they do provide instead of criticizing the manner in which it is delivered". Andrea Steph writes: "I completely agree. I have been reading and posting to this board for quite some time- almost a year now. I have had some questions answered and some left without replies, but i am still thankful for this service. One other possibility is that certain questions really require a specialist's reply and the doctors who are not specialists do not want to answer. I find that completely logical, and very respectful of US. I love reading the answers because I know the doctor would not have posted unless they really know. In some cases it may be a question that has been asked and answered many times in the past. I can imagine doctors becoming tired of the same questions- especially when an archive and search function is available. Anyhow I wanted to second your opinions and voice another grateful "thank you" to the doctors who spend so much of their time helping us on this forum". Steph Me again: That says about it all ladies. I hope we can all continue to remember that this is a Volunteer Service, providing answers, Free of Charge so that we can sleep a little better tonight. I salute you all for your kind words of support. Barbara
