I'm a 39 year old woman with 3 fibroids visible on a sonogram, each about 8 cms & growing about 1cm per month. My doctor wants to schedule a myomectomy to preserve fertility.

My question: My "second opinion" doctor has scheduled me for an HSG (hysterosalpingogram) -- is this better than an ultrasound to diagnose size/placements of fibroids and if so, why?

Also, he has suggested I might need laparoscopy "just to see" -- can you tell me when you think such a step would be indicated?

I'm confused about all the test options -- thanks for your help!
