Sonogram revealed no sac

I visited my OB today because I was a day or so late on my period and was hoping for pregnancy. My cycles are extremely long (35-42 days) and I usually don't even consider the option of pregnancy until day 42. This was the 42nd day. The test revealed positive. Due to some very light brown spotting, the nurse did a sonogram. The sonogram showed no sac at all. They sent me to have a complete blood work up, and to have another in 48 hrs to check my hormone levels. I am very concerned about what to expect. The last time my husband and I had sexual relations was on day 16 of my last cycle, so at the least I should be about 5 weeks pregnant. Can you give me any indication of what may be going on? Does this sound etopic to you? Or simply too early to see a sac? I would prefer to be given the hard facts than to have false hope. Thank you, A. Carlson
