strange cycle while recovering from anorexia nervosaFrom: aasha (anonymous@obgyn.net)Mon, 8 Jun 1998 20:53:24 -0500 (CDT)
I was diagnosed with anorexia nervosa several years ago and have had a lot of associated health problems. I have had some ups and downs with my weight but was amenorrheic for 3 years. Prior to that I got my period fairly regularly about every 6 weeks. I have always been very active and relatively thin. After recent inpatient treatment I gained weight to about 110-115lb (I'm 5'7", 30yr) and I got my period about 3 months ago. I also had a pap and pelvic exam that was normal in about Feb. I had about 3 periods then in this last month I have lost a bit of weight - I had a period that was pretty heavy for me about 10days ago (despite weight loss) and now I find that I am having what seems to be another one starting yesterday. I am a bit alarmed by this as even when I wasn't sick I never had frequent periods - there was always at least 5 weeks in between. Now I feel like "oh great - I must be really fat now to have extra periods" - I know that sounds silly (and I am a DVM so I have a good understanding of medicine) - but I am wondering what is going on. I am not on any birth control medications and am not currently sexually active. Any information would be appreciated.
