8dpo and hpt negative....too early?

Had an appointment yesterday and the nurse insisted on a urine test to rule out pregnancy. I was 8dpo and it was not first morning urine. Is this too early to believe the negative result or are Dr. office urine tests more sensitive than what we can by on the market that they can tell this early? I had to practically force myself to go because I didn't have to go in the first place. What I've been reading is this may be too early to test. Should I just go ahead and believe it that AF is on her way even though temps are up?
