Miscarriage Causes Thyroid DiseaseFrom: Carrie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 29 May 1998 12:40:59 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Doctors: I understand that pregnancy can cause thyroid problems. And I understand that thyroid disease can cause miscarriages. But can an early pregnancy loss cause thyroid disease? (I know it sounds circular.) I had a TSH panel done following my second consecutive miscarriage, in February. It came back normal. I suffered another miscarriage in early May; all miscarriages possibly due to a luteal phase defect. However, over the last few months I have been gaining weight (5% of my original weight and still climbing), seemingly without having changed my eating or exercise habits. The only other thing I can attribute this weight gain to is the Clomid 50mg I was on in early March (I only took it for one cycle). P.S. Are TSH panel blood results only valuable if they are taken on specific days in the cycle?
