Group B Strep and Antibiotic treatments

I have some questions about group B Strep. I am allergic to several antibiotics, including Penicillan, Erythromiacin, and Sulfa. Are there any other antibiotics that can be given during labor to prevent GBS disese?

I gave birth to my first child in England, where woman are not routinely tested for GBS. I had PROM at 37 weeks and after a 24 hour wait and see period and a lengthy induction, I gave birth to my daughter almost 40 hours later. The doctors did an internal and took some tests when I first arrived at the hospital, but I was never told the results. I was not given antibiotics during my labor. My daughter was given prophylactic antibiotics after birth, but her cultures came back negative. She did "grunt" for an hour after birth and was a bit blue looking, but I think this may have been due to the fact that I had a very prolonged second stage of labor and she needed to be delivered by venteuse.

Here is where things get confusing. We moved back to NYC when my daughter was 7 months old. Several days after our arrival I became very ill will an intensely sore throat. The doctor told me that I had some how managed to contract Group B Strep in my throat. I took cypro which cleared it up quickly.

Here is my second question: Could the same Goup B Strep infection which made me so ill after the birth of my daughter have also cause the PROM during my pregnancy?

I would like to become pregnant with a second child soon and will be scheduling a pre-conception check up with my new obgyn. However, I would like to be more informed about my situation before the appointment. Any answers or advice which you can give me would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
