I am nearly 3 months post-hysterectomy, my doctor was able to leave me
with one good, healthy ovary. I am on HRT for a 3 month period to help
my body adjust to the different estrogen level because I was having some
problems with hot flushes and night sweats. It isn't all bad, I feel a
lot better now as I am not in the constant pain I was in before. I too
had very long and heavy periods, sometimes I only had 3 or 4 days out of
a month when I wasn't having some type of flow. I am 37 and was facing
a longer wait for "it to all be over with". I urge you to read
everything you can and talk to your doctor openly and honestly about the
pros and cons. Let him/her know that you would like to keep the ovaries
if they are viable and healthy. I tried the BCP's but was unable to
tolerate the side effects, they may work for you and it is worth a try.
As Dr. Bradley said, this is a quality of life issue. My insurance
company fought me for 6 long, painful years before finally approving my
surgery. I am still angry with them over this as I feel they cheated me
out of my youngest childs first years. I was in so much constant pain
that simply pouring a bowl of cereal would send me to the couch with a
heating pad and 800 mg of Motrin every 4 hours. I am now pain free and
energetic. I can do anything anytime. As for the sex life-- wonderful.
Spontaneity rules and though it takes awhile for full sensation to
return, it's worth the wait! I hope this helps ease your mind a little.
Search the archives, and ask questions. Best wishes to you!
