AnemiaFrom: Elaine (anonymous@obgyn.net)Sun, 24 May 1998 19:21:30 -0500 (CDT)
I am 43 years old and have been experiencing heavy periods for quite a while now. I had a tubal ligation 7 years ago and the bleeding has gotten continuously worse over the years. I had an endometrial biopsy done and the diagnosis was endometrial hyperplasia (about 2 yrs ago). On my last visit in October to the gyn. he said that I was probably not ovulating anymore, hence the thick uterine lining. I am always tired, and at the time of my period getting extremely weak and feeling bad, not able to do much of anything, feeling like I may black out. I had a blood test done about 3 weeks ago, about a week after my period started and the hemo. was 10. My Dr. said a count of 10 would not make me feel this bad. Could the blood count actually be going lower at the time of the bleeding? I have tried oral progesterone treatment, but made me retain an extreme amount of fluid, so I discontinued them. I definitely have to do something to correct this, and have been weighing the options of a hysterectomy or endometrial ablation. I'm very confused. Any suggestions?
