Strep A in the uterusFrom: anonymous@obgyn.netSat, 23 May 1998 13:11:39 -0500 (CDT)
If a women had a Strep. A infection in her uterus for six days, and then was treated with Macrobid for ten days but the infection did not completely clear up, (1) How could she have contracted it there? (2) Could the infection eventually spread to the outside of the uterus and surrounding areas (pelvic side wall, rectum, ovary etc.), without the uterus being punctured? (3) How long would it take for the infection (after the 10 days of antibiotics were taken) to become an eighth of an inch thick across 3/4 of the Peritoneum and anterior surface of the uterus? Any information you could give me would be much appreciated.
