rectal/cervical pain

Lately I have been experiencing frequent, sharp, stabbing pain in my rectum. This usually occurs in the middle of the night when I am awaken by it's onset. It grows and gets more and more intense until finally, I stumble to the kitchen, swallow excedrin and pray it goes away. The other night, after intercourse, it began again, but this time, my entire pelvic region was sore. My cervix felt like it had been severely bruised (my husband is not _that big). Today, I was shopping when I was overcome with a cold sweat and severe rectal pain. I could hardly drive home fast enough to get to the excedrin. It took a long time to go away. When the pain grows, it feels as though my rectum is pulsating. I sat in a very hot bath while I waited for the pain to go away. Please, any suggestions would be appriceiated. I am going to go to a doctor, but I don't know if I should see a proctologist, and intern or an ob/gyn. I am 39 years old, childless and except for smoking, pretty darn healthy. This has been going on for years, but getting worse. Any suggestions/words of wisdom???
