Amy--our major concern is to prevent damage to the kidney if the ureter is totally obstructed. Also infection is a concern.Occasionaly a tube can be placed thru the skin and tissues overling kidney and may function better than a stent thru the ureter--this is for a totally obstructed ureter. A basket catheter can be placed thru ureter in an attempt to remove stone--occasionaly laser may help here. >
