OPERA is a procedure for controlling significant abnormal uterine bleeding. If fibroids are protruding into the uterine cavity, they are shaved off, the lining of the uterine cavity resected, and the vessels sealed by electrical energy(ablation). Fibroids within the uterine wall,("intramural") or protruding to the outside of the uterus("subserosal")are not touched. The result of the OPERA is the same....75-89% of patients do not bleed again!!
