Re: ductal carcinoma in situ and hormone therapy replacementFrom: Barbara (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 14 May 1998 08:53:31 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Betty, Dr, Radnich has already written an excellent repy to you about HRT in post breast cancer treatment so I will only add my personal thoughts to his medical opinion. I am a post menopause, post breast cancer and now recovering post broken leg, (my fault). While here in Dallas for treatment and staying with my daughter and son-in-law, (who is also my breast cancer surgeon) we have had several discussions about EVISTA. Due to my age and the fact that heart and bone protection seem to be the most important health areas for me in the future I have been advised by my breat cancer surgeon and OK'd by my Orthopedic surgeon, to start taking this drug. I can certainly understand your feelings about anything that could cause a return of breast cancer as that is our biggest fear isn't it? I think, the hope of prevention of that diease is an even better reason to take it then the bone-heart reasons, for me anyway. I have had at least two other very good friends that are ob/gyns suggest I take EVISTA in the past few months and now I have made the decision to do it! I take my time and think things over and tend to be a bit stubbon so this is a choice I needed to make on my own, with sound medical imput. Betty, heed the wise words of Dr. Radnich, talk to your medical care-givers and then make a choice that makes Betty feel good. I am so very happy for you that your tests all had such wonderful results. Your sister in breast cancer, Barbara
