Spotting with high temps post m/cFrom: Chris (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 8 May 1998 10:11:16 -0500 (CDT)
Thank you very much for your time in posting responses for those of us who are so concerned about the mysteries of our bodies and relies on health professionals like yourselves to explain our own bodies to us. My questions: And please forgive my length, but I think it's necessary: Two months ago, my first cycle trying to conceive, I had (for the first time in my life) brown spotting at 7 dpo, nothing at 8, then at 9 and 10, then it stopped. I assumed it was implantation bleeding after reading your forums here. Several days later I had nausea and felt warm with cold chills and had to come home from work just to sleep. That night I felt much better, and then next morning my temps dropped below cover, and within an hour after taking temps I had severe cramps. I took a bath to help with the pain and had what I have called "an explosion" of large pieces of tissue in the bathwater -- a very shocking image. The next day I went to the doctor, and she diagnosed early m/c and sent me for a u/s which showed an empty retroverted uterus except for a 1.1 cm round piece of liquid sitting on the cervix. The doctor advised no conception for the next month. I had very little bleeding after the bathtub experience -- maybe 1/2 day of extremely light blood. 10 days later I ovulated again, and 8 days later I had brownish blood again. This time I assumed I was finishing the m/c (and my OB/GYN agreed). I was sent back for a u/s which still showed an empty uterus except for the same 1.1 cm liquid piece, which was then diagnosed as a Nabothian cyst. But the u/s showed copious extra-uterine liquid with my right fallopian tube "floating" in the liquid. I was sent for a blood HCG to rule out ectopic pg. It was negative (as expected, since I had been using contraception). I was diagnosed with a ruptured cyst. 4 days later I had a full period which should have cleared out any leftover m/c, I thought. I was sent back for a final u/s to see that all extra-uterine liquid had been reabsorbed, and it essentially had been. At that time a 17 mm follicle was noted on my left ovary. I ovulated the next day, at day 12. Now I am 9 dpo and I have brown spotting again, the third month in a row. It's only on the tissue when I go to the bathroom -- never enough to show up on my underwear. I'm afraid to think it's implantation again because it could have the same result as last time. My temperature has been 37 C (98.6 F) for the last three days. (My cover is 36.6 (97.9 appx?). FINALLY, my questions: 1) Is it possible for my gynecologist to have made a definite diagnosis of early m/c just by my charts, my history, and a physical exam, with no pregnancy test? 2) Is my body now making a pattern of this 9 dpo bleeding, and if so, will it affect my success of implantation? If it's not implantation bleeding, should I request a progesterone test, despite my high temps? Thank you so, so much. I'm becoming quite concerned.
-- Sincerely, Chris
