ProgesteroneFrom: Laura (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 1 May 1998 18:48:56 -0500 (CDT)
I have just suffered my second miscarriage. The first one was a missed miscarriage (fetus died at 8 weeks but not detected until 14 weeks by ultrasound). This one was only 5 weeks along. I chart my basal body temperature. I noticed with this second pregnancy that my temperatures appeared to be diving at about 10-11 days past ovulation, and looked unusually low, as if my period were about to start. I tested positive on a home pregnancy test at about 13 days past ovulation, although it was very faint. The pregnancy hung on for almost another week, then the bleeding began. (Previous cycles showed a 10-11 day luteal phase. My question: I asked my doctor about a possible progesterone deficiency and he said progesterone supplements don't work. If that is the case, why do so many women get them prescribed? How can I overcome a possible progesterone problem? Do the supplements work? Thanks for your help.
