adenomyosisFrom: Claire (anonymous@obgyn.net)Fri, 1 May 1998 08:02:59 -0500 (CDT)
First, I'd like to thank all of the doctors who donate their time to this forum. I've learned an incredible amount by reading their many messages, and become a much better informed patient! I've had pelvic pain since last November. I had laparoscopy in January, but no visable endometriosis was observed. After many tests with many doctors, my gynecologist and I decided to try a GnRH analog. It has really helped me. My pain is decreasing rapidly, and I am starting to return to a normal life (yipee!). My gynecologist interprets the success of the GNRH analog to mean that I have adenomyosis, even though my uterus appeared small and normal during laparoscopy. She thinks that it must be adenomyosis and not endometriosis, because she thinks that she would have seen at least some small indication visually during laparoscopy if I had endometriosis. Here are my questions: 1) Is it likely that I actually have endometriosis rather than adenomyosis? 2) Is it possible to do a biopsy of the uterus to test for adenomyosis? I know that the only real cure for it is to remove the uterus. But, I'd feel more comfortable with that option if there were some way to make a sure diagnosis of adenomyosis ahead of time. 2) I am interested in trying to have a baby after I finish my 6 months on the GNRH analog (I'm 35). Does adenomyosis cause problems with conceiving or carrying a pregnancy to term? Any extra risk of pregnancy if the mother has adenomyosis? Thank you for your help. I greatly appreciate it.
