DES, Fertility, & WeightFrom: Shannon (anonymous@obgyn.net)Thu, 30 Apr 1998 19:49:01 -0500 (CDT)
I am a 26 year old DES daughter. I am 5'8" and weigh 205lbs. While I have never had totally regular periods, they were usually within a 28-40 day range. I have not had a period now in almost a year. Last year at this time I went to my doctor because it had been 5 months since I had a period and I had never gone that long before. He said it was due to my weight and as far as I know, he didn't run any special tests. He did find what he described as a cyst on the back of my uterus. I had two ultrasounds that stated I had a large collection of fluid in my abdomen. My doctor then scheduled a laproscopy(May '97) which he said showed no fluid in my abdomen, just a small cyst on my ovary that he drained, and some endometriosis behind my uterus that was described in the report as being similar to "Hanson's window?" After the laproscopy I was put on six months of Lupron shots to get rid of the endometriosis. My last shot was Oct. '97. I told my doctor I wanted to become pregnant, so he sceduled a HSG exam(the dye in the uterus while an x-ray is taken) and that came back with my tubes widely open and a slightly t-shaped uterus. I also have mild adenosis around my cervix. My doctor told me I should get my period within 8 weeks or so after my last lupron shot. I should have gotten a period around Dec. '97. It is now May and I still have never had a period after discontinuing the lupron. I have been exercising for 1 hour,5-6 days a week for about a month now. I have lost 7 pounds and I am enjoying the exercise. I plan to keep it up. I am not really sure what to do next. I know I can not conceive if I am not ovulating and I am not sure what the cause of the annovulation is. I would like to be able to seriously try and conceive this fall/winter '98. Should I keep excercising and hope for a period or try and have my doctor prescribe something to "jump-start" my periods? Am I damaging my future fertility by just keeping up the exercise and going without the periods? Any help or advice offered will be much appreciated. I have my yearly exam with my doctor scheduled for May 19,1998. Thanks, Shannon
