Re: Effect of stress on chances of becoming pregnantFrom: Sian (anonymous@obgyn.net)Tue, 28 Apr 1998 07:53:09 -0500 (CDT)
Dear Naureen My thoughts are with you I too have a daughter and recently suffered a miscarriage - I found trying for a baby (both before but particularly after the miscarriage) incredibly hard work and not particularly enjoyable most of the time because of the tremendous emotional strain that suddenly becomes attached to the act of making love. We were trying for a baby and I arranged to take my partner away for a romantic Valentine's break which just so happened to coincide with my likely "crucial time". I say likely because I have regular periods but wasn't using an OPK. However, as luck would have it my previous period was late (or as I believe, had an early miscarriage - I'll never know for sure) and my fertile time began immediately after our break when my other half had to go away on his own. I initially fumed inwardly at the prospect of wasting a whole month but what could I do? It just wasn't to be that month. Anyway, we had a great few days on our own and were so busy we never actually go around to intercourse! I spent my fertile period alone and the love of my life returned on what was probably my last fertile night, we made love because we wanted to rather than primarily to conceive. I was totally relaxed and convinced that it was really too late for me to conceive. I'm sure I don't need to tell you the rest - yep, Mother Nature did the business for me. Another word of advice is - book yourself a vacation. I've heard it said that this is the best form of fertility treatment there is! (I also used this method so it comes tried and tested.) I'm sorry for the long message and the light-hearted tone. I don't mean to be glib - trying to get pregant is not a joke partlicularly after loss. I also know that you don't want to hear people tell you not to try too hard - people said it to me and it drove me nuts - but I think what I am trying to say is do try to relax as much as you can, don't put your life on hold but get on with the fun things in life. Oh yes, and enjoy your daughter to the full. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you and for everyone else out there hoping to get pregnant.
