Alternative Formulations of Natural ProgesteroneFrom: Carrie (anonymous@obgyn.net)Wed, 22 Apr 1998 12:26:43 -0500 (CDT)
Hello, I am looking for alternative medical formulations of natural progesterone, inserted vaginally (used to treal luteal phase defect). I have taken 400mg Prometrium (brand name from Sherring-Plough) vaginally. When taken orally, I have no side effects with this formulation. However, I suspect the Prometrium is the cause of a vaginal infection, when I administer it vaginally. (Something about the coating on the pills themselves.) I have been told natural progesterone is more effective (and perhaps less harmful) when taken vaginally because it need not be processed by the liver. Can anyone suggest other brands which I can investigate? I understand Crinone is an alternative, unfortunately this has not yet been approved for use in Canada. Can pharmacies buy the powder and create their own pills? Thanks Carrie
